Moving On
Moving on from Nursery School
- With the introduction of the Foundation Stage the curriculum is now continuous to the end of the reception year. All settings should be providing the same planned activities and experiences to ensure children make progress towards the Early Learning Goals. There is no question of children missing out or ‘getting behind’. Children can spend between 3 and 5 terms in the nursery before they have to make the huge step of transferring to the Primary School.
- Primary Schools can offer places for the reception class in September, or both September and January. Our neighbouring Primary School – Burnwood Community School – will be offering places for a September intake and January intake.
- Parents may decide when their child is ready to move on and can decide to keep their child at Nursery School or Private Nursery for additional terms.
- Parents have a legal right to take up the place at Primary School in January or the term after the term in which the child is five. As a parent you know your child best and will be able to decide when is the time for them to move on.

- Staff from both schools participate in exchange visits to work with the children
- Visits to the reception class are arranged
- Parents are invited to a meeting and an open afternoon with their child.
Parents who wish their child to attend other primary schools in the area, please contact the Headteacher at the school to arrange admission.
